Tamil Jr. (3/22/15)

This  week we practiced the Consonant sounds and weather Words. We read a book on it and we did a worksheet to practice the words. 
Then One group worked with Ms. Vidya in writing Vowels while the others worked with Ms. Sowmya to write first 6 consonant letters. Kids all did a good job. We informed the students about the test in our next class. Please have the kids prepare for it. We have given the details in the last week blog. It is also added here too. 

      This week , kids earned their Third star!!! towards cupcake party at the end of the year. They were all very attentive and followed directions well in the class.

  All kids have to continue  recording minutes of speaking tamil in their house. Encourage them to use one or two words in between sentences at least. 

Test Next Class:
  Kids are going to have their Letters test on 4/12/15 class. It will help us know the level of kids and assess their future activity. Since we have kids at various levels in our class, the test content will vary for each kid. Please refer to the list below. We are letting you ahead of time, so that kids have enough time to practice.
  Here are the testing details.

• Ambika, Visvam - Writing Consonants without seeing in right order. Letter sequence Activity
• Adharsh, Aaryan, Vibhu, Navneeth- Identify all the vowel sounds, put them in the right order and write few letters if possible. 
• All others- Write vowels without seeing in right order. Letter sequence Activity.

    If kids has any difficulties in any of the letter, the website links above also have small images that shows how to write the letters. 

Note: 
    Our google drive is updated with all the vocabulary and worksheet lists we have used in the class so far. We have shared to drive with all the parents. If any one is missed, please email us and let us know the email to be shared with . 

Tamil Jr. class (3/15/15)

This  week we practiced the days of the week with flash card. Each kid had a packet of weekdays . they have to put the names in the right order. We also asked what comes after , where they have to pick the right day and show. 
 Then we had the kids paste them in their notebook in the correct order. 
  We also had the kids pasted the Weather related words. We will be working on it in the next class. 
      This week , kids earned their second star!!! towards cupcake party at the end of the year. They were all very attentive and followed directions well in the class. 
Home work: Each kid went home with a consonant tracing activity pasted in their notebooks. Many kids finished it in the class itself. Please have them practice it at home.    We will be working on weather words and consonant sounds. We will try to work on writing the first 4-6 letters on their own. 
  Newly joined kids will work on the vowel sounds. 
If time permits we will read small sentence in English and try to translate them to Tamil.

Tamil Jr. Class (3/8/2015)

     Today we practiced Weekdays vocabulary and one letter words. All kids had the one letter word list pasted in their notebook. We will be reviewing the one letter words in the next class. Many kids are still not confident about the week days. Please review it with them every day. 
     We also learnt how to say all consonant sounds. We will be starting to practice writing them from the next class. Newly joined kids learnt Vowel sound with Ms. Vidya while others were working in the consonant sounds. 
  Today all kids did very well in being good listeners. Everyone followed directions and did a good job with consonant sounds. Hence everyone got a gift from the treasure box.  This also means  that the class got its "First Star " . Nine more stars and they will have a cup cake party to celebrate it. 
     Keep it up kids....!!!  Hope to see the same spirit in all the future class too.
    The week kids who won an extra prize for best effort in speaking tamil are Keerthana, Logathithya, Visvam. Good job guys. We need more kids to join them in coming weeks. Every sincere efforts will be appriciated.

Homework for next week:
  Speak atleast 1 to 5 min with family /friends everyday. Get it acknowledged and signed by the parents.
  Practice vowel/consonant sounds.(Which ever learnt today)
  Practice Week days
  Practice one letter words. 

Parents: 
   Please review the Google drive and make sure kids have all the printouts listed in there. We will be going back and reviewing our vocabulary every now and then in the class. Those print outs will be very helpful for them.
  The best way to save them is print two pages in one paper and paste them in their Tamil notebook like the week days and one letter words that went in their notebook today. 

Next class: 
   We will be reviewing our past words list. We will be starting to trace the consonant letters. 

Tamil Jr. Class (3/1/15)

 This week we had three new faces to the tamil class.  We revised and worked on the week days . We wrote the names on the board and asked the kids to find the names of the weeks . Most of them did ok. They all  need more practice. 

   We also started learning consonants. From this week,only kids who followed directions and who did the best effort to speak in tamil during the class are allowed to pick a prize from the price box. 

   This week's winner for best effort in speaking Tamil is "Keerthana". She tried her best to communicate in tamil as much as possible. Keep it up Keerthana. We will be looking forward for more kids to get the prize too. Harish, Omkar, Visvam got to pick a prize too for following directions. They were attentive in class and tried to do their best in all activities. 

   Our homework for the next week is that they have to speak at least 1 to 5 minutes each day in Tamil with their family / friends. They have to record the minutes and get signature from their parents. Have the kids practice "Days of the week" words. It is attached in the notebook to all those who have a Tamil notebook. 

Parents: Please do not insist on pure language speaking skills for now. Encourage them to speak .A Tamil words in their English sentences is good too.

Eg: "Amma, I want to play. Naan Poeganum?"  

" I am hungry. Saappidanum".

     Also, We will not be allocating separate snack time. But kids are allowed have the snack while doing their activities. So please send in a mess free snack (like cracker/fruit snacks) for the kids. 

For New kids :

   All Tamil Jr. kids needs to have a notebook ,pencil, crayon/color pencil, Glue stick, folder to keep the printouts. We have all the printout for the class in the BBNJTamil google drive and shared only with the class parents. Please make sure, you have all the printouts. If you did not get any access to it, email us (bbnjtamil@gmail.com) and we will share the link with you. 

Next class:

   We will be learning season words and One letter words. We will continue on Consonants sounds. 

 New Kids will be learning vowel sounds.
