We had few new members to our class this week. With more diverse range of age groups in the class, we will be little slow for next couple of weeks.I am still in the process of understanding each kid's ability to read, write, and speak the language. Here is what we did in our class.
Kids need to bring back the worksheets. We will be working on them again next week.
I thank the parents and Grandparents who stayed with the kids in the class. They were great help while doing the worksheet in the class.
Next week, we will be working on the vowels sound more, color words, and numbers if time permit.
Please make sure the kids have the following for their Tamil class.
- Today we worked on our vowel sounds and family member words in Tamil. Most of the students were given opportunity to come forward and read the vowels. We will continue this next week.
- We did a worksheet on "what comes before" each alphabet for the bigger kids (2nd grade and above). This worksheet is mainly to see if the kids can learn writing the alphabet by copying from the list of letters or by tracing the letter. We will be working on this next week.
- Smaller kids (Pre-k to grade 1) did "trace and count " worksheet. they traced all the "அ " on the page and counted how many are there.
- Under vocabulary, we learnt family member names. All students are asked to say who live in their house. Some kids were able to say their family relation names (uncle, aunt, grandparents...) who live in India too. We encourage all kids to speak in tamil as much as possible in class.
- We translated the rhyme "Jony Jony Yes papa" into tamil.
- Today kids would have come home with their names written in tamil. Please save that or help the kid write their name in their tamil notebook so that they do not loose this sheet. This is mainly for them to be able to identify their names in tamil by the end of this year. We will be using this on every class to identify their name.
